The newest addition to our facilities line is the palletized machining center system, known as Makino MMC2 automation module. This is configured with two Makino a51 machines.
The MMC2 is a modular, automated material handling system that links Makino horizontal machining centers, pallet loaders and operators. A servo-controlled vehicle transports material to and from machines, with little, if any, operator intervention. Its modular flexibility permits future expansion as needed.
Spindle utilization up to 95%
The Makino Machining Complex (MMC) assigns work and initiates operations automatically, based on machine and material availability, utilizing maximum spindle capabilities and monitoring all automated procedures. Up to 15 machining centers and four different work setting stations can be tied into the MMC. The system can handle up to 200 pallet stockers—stacked either one, two or three layers high—with an unlimited number of parts and fixtures.
The MMC2 system software features in-cell production scheduling, equipment status monitoring, NC program management, tool data management and reporting capability.
The Makino a51
The Makino a51 comes with a 14,000-rpm spindle standard, has exceptional acceleration characteristics, minimal vibration and a high powered spindle option. It also has a 313-tool magazine.
The primary benefits of our Makino a51 include swift axis movement, faster spindle acceleration/deceleration, and a faster index table than competitive HMCs. Quicker automatic tool changer (ATC) speeds means even faster tool-to-tool (0.9 seconds) and chip-to-chip (2.3 seconds) times are available on the a51. Tool search times are also minimized so time out of cut is diminished. The a51 is capable of simultaneous B-axis movement with tool change and X-, Y-, Z-axis travel 22 x 22 x 23.6 inches (560 x 560 x 600 mm).
